Financial Literacy for Schools

Talking to Students

Teaching children how to manage money is a vital part of a child’s education. Children need to be able to make informed judgements and effective decisions regarding the use and management of money.

For years we’ve been educating local students on money management. Our Financial Literacy talks accommodate kids of all ages: from Preps understanding the basics of money and saving, through to secondary students learning about goal-setting and applying for loans. These school talks happen all over the region and have even won awards.

Hume staff regularly speak at primary, secondary and tertiary schools. To help promote financial literacy, Hume provides this service to schools at no charge.

To book a talk for your school, call us on 1300 004 863.

Hume can present to schools on topics including:

  • Grades Prep to 2: Information is focused on the basics of money and the importance of saving to help develop good savings habits at an early age.
  • Grades 3 & 4: Students learn to identify the difference between needs versus wants and how to create a basic savings plan and budget.
  • Grades 5 & 6: In preparation for high school, students learn how to be responsible with money, types of credit, the dangers of mobile phones, setting financial goals and creating budgets.
  • Secondary: As students enter the workforce, students learn practical information on applying for a loan, account types, saving plans, setting financial goals and budgeting.
