Director of award winning documentary Embrace and founder of The Body Image Movement, Taryn Brumfitt is returning to the border for the launch of her new book.
Research shows that 70% of adolescent girls dislike their bodies, whilst a third of adolescent boys wished they were bigger. Body image is one of the biggest personal concerns for Australian girls and boys aged between 15 and 19. (Body Image Movement, 2018).
Taryn has inspired over a million people across the world to embrace their bodies. Her book, Embrace Yourself, provides a guide to loving your body at every shape and size.
“The media and advertisers so often present one singular body type as being the standard. In truth, hardly any person on the planet looks like that and the images are often digitally manipulated anyway. But so many perfectly healthy normal people are left feeling inadequate. We should all be empowered to just not buy into it,” shared Taryn Brumfitt.
Hume Bank hosted internationally recognised body image activist Taryn in 2017, where much needed funds of $10,000 were raised for the local Women’s Centre of Health and Wellbeing Albury Wodonga.
Lil Beamish, Chief Executive Officer of the Women’s Centre said that the funds have been crucial in supporting the delivery of the “Lioness Program,” which assists women through their pregnancy journey.
This year, to support Taryn’s Body Image Movement and the Embrace Yourself Tour, Hume Bank is coming on board as an Education Sponsor. This sponsorship will assist in making copies of the Embrace Education Study Guide available to ten lucky members of the Hume community and is consistent with our strong focus on mental health awareness on the border.
“As a father of three children, body image is a prominent topic of concern. Anything we can do to help better educate and provide our children and community with the skills they need to foster positive body image, is more important than ever before,” shared Andrew de Graaff, Chief Customer Officer – Hume Bank.
The guide, developed by education specialists, is aimed at teaching teenagers to base their self-worth beyond their appearance and will inspire life-changing body image conversations in and outside the classroom.
Attendees of the book launch will enjoy a fun night out, which will include a fashion show by leading brand Birdsnest, guaranteed laughs with MC Ellen Briggs and an inspiring talk from Taryn.
Hume Bank is excited to be involved as we help build awareness towards ending the global body-hating epidemic in our local community.
