Here at Hume, we’re always excited to hear that our customers enjoy their experience in our branches.
However, it seems that none could trump the visit that our long-time customer, Elaine Purvey, had in the lead up to Christmas.
It was just like any other visit in early December, Elaine had come in to make a withdrawal, however this time she left with something even more valuable. To Elaine’s surprise we had honoured her late husband on the walls of our Olive Street branch, her husband was one of Hume’s original founding directors - Kevin Walls.
Helping forge Hume’s foundations of easier access to funding for housing in our local region, Kevin was one of Hume’s six founding directors that formed the ‘Hume Co-Operative Building and Investment Society Limited’ on the 5th of April 1955.
A morning tea was organised, and the broader family made a visit too. There was no one more excited for this visit than Kevin’s only son, Rob Walls, who arranged an earlier flight home from his work in Singapore just for the occasion before spending the Christmas festive season with family and friends.
Shaping a career in financial services also, Rob is the Vice President and Head of Products and Digital Payments at Visa. Along with Hume staff members, the family was able to reminisce on the wonderful work Kevin achieved for Hume as a founding director and served as a timely reminder of our community roots which we stood for then, and still stand true today.
A true Christmas homecoming for one of Hume Bank’s founding families, with the joy and festivities lasting long in to the New Year.
