Verified by Visa: Safe and secure shopping online

Verified by Visa is a free service that is designed to help make it safer to shop online using your Hume Visa credit or debit card at participating merchants.

All customers who shop online at participating Verified by Visa merchants using a Hume Visa card, will need to provide a password as part of the checkout process.

By having a Verified by Visa password, you are protecting your card from fraudulent use on the internet. This protection is similar to entering your PIN at an ATM.

Verified by Visa is a free service that provides extra protection when you shop online at Verified by Visa merchants using your Hume Visa card.

How do I Enrol?


To enrol for Verified by Visa simply go to https://hume.cardinalcommerce.com/cardservices/ and follow the instructions.

You will then be asked to create a username, password and personal message for your Visa card.

How does Verified by Visa work?

Your Visa card will be recognised as a Verified by Visa enabled credit or debit card when you shop online at participating Verified by Visa merchants.

  1. Set up your verification method in just a few minutes through iBank www.humebank.com.au
  2. Once you activate your card, Verified by Visa protects you when you shop at any participating online store.
  3. When you wish to make a purchase, check your transaction details and follow the instructions provided to complete the transaction.
  4. Hume will then validate the information you have entered and authorise the transaction.

My details were rejected, what do I do?

The below are common errors that can often prevent Visa from authorising your details.

  • Only the details on the first line of the card should be input and they need to be exactly as they appear on the card: For example: if your card says Mr John R Smith – input exactly as that. If there is text on the second line of the card, this should be ignored.
  • The credit limit should be input in whole dollars, excluding the '$' symbol and the decimal point: If the credit limit on a card is $2000.00 – it should be input as 2000.
  • Your customer number is the first set of digits before the S10, S12 etc: Each digit proceeding the letter refers to your account number rather than customer number.

What if my username isn't available?

Verified by Visa requires you to have a unique username for each Visa card. If your username already exists and is unavailable you will need to enter another username.

What if I have more than one Hume Visa Card

If you have more than one Hume Visa card you will need a different username for each card. Your personal message and password can be the same.Verified by Visa requires you to have a unique username for each Visa card. What is a personal message and why do I need it?

Your personal message is the message that you create when you enrol for Verified by Visa. Your personal message will be displayed whenever you make an online purchase with your Hume Visa card at participating merchants. This message provides you with the assurance that you are dealing with a Verified by Visa merchant.

How does Verified by Visa provide me with more protection?

Once you have enrolled for Verified by Visa and are making a purchase online at a Verified by Visa merchant, your card will be recognised as a Verified by Visa enabled card. 

This will activate a two-way confirmation between yourself and Visa:

Your Personal Message will be displayed (message created when you enrol for Verified by Visa) confirming that you are dealing with a genuine Verified by Visa merchant.
You will then be required to identify yourself by entering your chosen password.

After I enrol, how long does it take for Verified by Visa to become active?

It will become active immediately.

What does this mean for additional card holders?

If there are additional cardholders, each cardholder will need to enrol their card for Verified by Visa in order to shop online with the Verified by Visa protection at participating merchants.

I locked myself out of Verified by Visa, what do I do?

If your password is blocked, you will require assistance from Hume to reset your password.

How do I change by Verified by Visa password or personal message

Once you have enrolled, you can change your password or personal message at any time by selecting 'Self-Service Options’ on https://hume.cardinalcommerce.com/cardservices/
