Empowering others through volunteering – Albury Wodonga Regional Foodshare

As a customer owned bank, we’re focused on building connections in the regions our customers call home.

One of our latest partnerships has been to join forces with Albury Wodonga Regional Foodshare.

The organisation was established in 2011 to maximise the volume and nutritional quality of food available for local people in need.

It operates across the region from Corryong to Corowa and everywhere in between. Supplying emergency food hampers and ongoing support to individuals, community organisations, welfare agencies and schools.

In 2021, Foodshare opened their Community Pantry in Wigg Street, Wodonga. This saw a new type of food assistance becoming available to those in need through a dignified shopping experience in a micro version of a supermarket.

On the last Friday of each month, three Hume Bank employees volunteer for several hours, assisting to rescue and distribute food donations to people in need.

Employees spend time at the organisation’s two sites, helping with a range of activities, including sorting/stacking shelves, filling hampers and orders, unpacking deliveries and assisting shoppers.
