Hume Bank celebrates face-to-face banking in Lavington

As the last of the major banks prepares to close their doors in Lavington next month, local and customer-owned bank Hume Bank, is throwing the doors of its Lavington branch open to celebrate face-to-face banking.

After investing in a brand-new branch at Lavington two years ago, Hume Bank will welcome customers and the local community into their purpose-built branch at their open days on Thursday, 15 and Friday, 16 September.

Hume Bank CEO Stephen Capello reflected, “Customers’ needs are changing and how they do banking is changing. Certainly, there is a more of a digital presence now but there are also many customers that still value being able to visit a branch and speak to a real person.”

The reality of other banks closing their branches in Lavington has also had a significant impact on local businesses, who have daily or weekly banking needs. Hume Bank’s Lavington branch has increased its staffing levels over recent weeks to welcome new customers who have joined Hume following their bank’s closure. Staff trained in business banking and home lending also continue to be available to customers.

“Hume Bank sees the departure of other banks as a significant loss to this community. Especially for those who are vulnerable and may rely on a bank that is close by as part of their everyday life.” Stephen Capello said. “We’ve been serving the Lavington community for more than 40 years, and we plan on being here for many years to come.”

The open days will involve giveaways for kids, cookies and the face-to-face banking Hume Bank customers know and love. The days will also launch a new account opening competition, with new and current customers able to go in the draw to win a prize from local Lavington businesses.

Join Hume Bank staff at their branch open days from 9am to 5pm, Thursday, 15 and Friday, 16 September 2022 at 1/346 Griffith Road, Lavington.
