Phishing scams are one of the most common types of online fraud. They often come in the form of emails, text messages or phone calls that appear to be from trusted sources like your bank, a government agency or a well-known company. The goal is to trick victims into providing sensitive information or clicking on malicious links. These messages may:
- Urgently ask you to verify your account
- Warn of suspicious activity
- Include links or attachments that seem legitimate
Scammers are trying to trick you into handing over personal details like passwords, credit card numbers or account logins, or to click on links that install harmful software on your device.
If you receive a message that looks suspicious, avoid clicking any links or providing any personal information. Instead, contact the person or company directly using a known, legitimate email address or phone number.
